Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti

1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (28 oz) can of crushed tomatoes

2 cups marinara sauce

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cook the Spaghetti: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Brown the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Vegetables: Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the meat. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Sauces: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, marinara sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Mix Spaghetti: In a large bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce mixture. Toss until the pasta is well coated.

Layer the Casserole: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the spaghetti mixture. Dollop half of the ricotta cheese over the spaghetti, and sprinkle with one cup of mozzarella cheese. Pour the remaining spaghetti mixture on top, followed by the rest of the ricotta, and finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before slicing and serving.
