Ingredients

For the filling:

3 cups fresh cranberries (or 2 cups frozen, thawed)

4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

For the crisp topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar (lightly packed)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans), optional

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the cranberries and sliced apples. Add granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch (if using). Mix well until the fruit is coated. Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Make the crisp topping: In another bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. If using nuts, fold them in at this stage.

Assemble the crisp: Evenly spread the crisp topping over the fruit filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crisp topping is golden brown.

Cool and serve: Allow the cranberry apple crisp to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
