Ingredients

1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a stick shape, about 6-7 inches long. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Brush the herb butter mixture generously over the tops of the breadsticks.

Optional: Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the buttered breadsticks for an extra cheesy flavor.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Remove from the oven and brush with additional herb butter if desired. Serve warm.
