1. Prepare the Filling: Begin by preparing your chili filling. If you’re using leftover chili, ensure it's heated through. If you're making your own, combine ground beef (or a meat substitute), beans, tomatoes, and spices in a skillet. Simmer until thickened and flavorful. Once prepared, allow it to cool slightly before moving to the next step.

Ingredients

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 cup canned chili (with or without beans, based on preference)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/4 cup diced onions (optional)

1/4 cup diced jalapeños (optional for a spicy kick)

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Sour cream and chopped cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and gently separate it into individual triangles, pressing the seams together to create a solid surface.

Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the canned chili, shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of ingredients.

Assemble Melts: Take a triangle of dough and place a generous tablespoon of the chili cheese filling at the wider end. Roll the dough from the wide end to the tip, ensuring it's snug, but not too tight. Place each roll on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: Brush the top of each crescent melt with the beaten egg to give them a golden glaze when baked.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescents are puffed and golden brown.

Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool for a minute. Serve warm with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro for an extra burst of flavor.
