Ingredients

1 pound (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 cup beef broth or water

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Cooked jasmine rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

Prep Ingredients: Start by slicing the beef thinly against the grain. If using fresh broccoli, wash and cut it into small florets. Mince the garlic and ginger, and slice the red bell pepper if using.

Marinate Beef: In a bowl, combine thinly sliced beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well to ensure the beef is coated. Allow it to marinate while you prepare other ingredients (approximately 5 minutes).

Cook Broccoli: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until vibrant and slightly tender. Remove broccoli from the skillet and set aside.

Stir-Fry Beef: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.

Combine and Sauce: Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet along with the sliced red bell pepper (if using). Pour in the beef broth or water and sesame oil. Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over bowls of jasmine rice or quinoa. Enjoy your quick and delicious meal!
