Ingredients

1 French baguette (or Italian bread)

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 head of garlic, roasted

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh oregano, finely chopped

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

1 teaspoon kosher salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for a cheesy touch)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic: To roast the garlic, cut the top off a head of garlic, drizzle it with a little olive oil, wrap it in aluminum foil, and place it in the oven for about 30-35 minutes until soft. Once cooled, squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of the skins into a bowl.

Mix the Spread: In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter with roasted garlic, chopped parsley, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are incorporated into a creamy spread.

Slice the Bread: Cut the baguette in half lengthwise, then slice each half into smaller pieces if desired, but do not cut all the way through.

Spread the Mixture: Generously spread the garlic herb butter mixture evenly over both halves of the baguette. If you’re using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it evenly over the buttered bread.

Wrap and Bake: Wrap the bread halves in aluminum foil (to help retain moisture) and place them on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes.

Add a Crisp: To achieve a golden crust, remove the foil for the last 5 minutes of baking. If the cheese is added, broil for an additional 2-3 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Slice into portions if you haven't done so already, and serve warm, garnished with additional chopped herbs if desired.
