Spicy Sausage and Peppers Pizza Bake

1 lb spicy Italian sausage, casing removed

1 medium onion, sliced

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 yellow bell pepper, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

    Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the spicy Italian sausage, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Remove meat from pan and set aside.

      Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and peppers. Sauté for about 5-6 minutes until they are soft and beginning to caramelize. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

        Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.

          Prepare the Dough: While the sausage and peppers are simmering, spread the pizza dough onto a greased baking dish or a large rimmed baking sheet, pressing it down to cover the bottom and slightly up the sides.

            Layer the Pizza Bake: Evenly spread the sausage and pepper mixture over the dough, ensuring it’s well-distributed. Then, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese generously on top.

              Bake: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown, and the crust is cooked through.

                Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the pizza bake from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes, then garnish with freshly chopped basil. Slice and serve hot.
